Hello Judy,

I was just talking to a friend (a non-reader) about books written for children after they finished with "children's books." We talked about how children's books as well as those for the middle years and YA have expanded so much in the past decade or so.

She said she lost interest in reading because there weren't any books that were relevant to her. I asked if she had read any of your books and she didn't think she had (damn!).

As we talked, I realized how at least two of your books have stayed with me -- "Are you there God? It's me Margaret" and even more so "Tiger Eyes." The kind of books that my mind has flitted to randomly and frequently over the years since I (apparently) grew up.

I wanted to thank you, for writing stories about subjects that were relevant to me and characters that I could empathize with.

It's not a small thing, to write stories, characters or scenes that stay with people for decades.

Thank you.

Dear Judy Blume,
Hi, my name is Ruby. I've read 8 of your 28 wonderful books. Right mow I am reading BFF: Just as long as were together, Here's to you Rachel Robinson. I love your books because I can imagine and relate to them. My favourite book is: Starring Sally J. Freedman as her self because I love the story line and it was a fun book to read. I was wondering if you have time, can you send me I signed picture of your self? I have a reading nook in my bedroom and I would love to put the signed picture up there. I just wanted to thank you for writing these great books and I look forward to read the rest of them.
Hope to hear from you soon,

Hello,
I read your books growing up. They were an escape and a promise of a bigger world for a girl who didn't fit in. I recently started re - reading your books and was struck by how differently I see them. I'm a grown up now, and a psychologist in private practice. I work primarily with kids who are not neurotypical as well as a fair number of anxious little girls. I now read these through the lens of someone who often hears many variations of the themes you speak to in your books: grief, loss, loneliness, trauma, anxiety, self-doubt AND resilience, competence, bravery, and identity. Thank you so much. The stories you tell are reminders to kids that they are not alone in what they experience.

Dear Mrs. Blume, My name is Adrianne, and liked your book, Tales so a Fourth Grade Nothing. My favorite part in Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is the last chapter, poor Dribble! That is my favorite part in the book, because I like it when Mother is trying to tell Peter that Dribble is not in Fudge's tummy, but it is. Then Mother asks where Dribble is and Fudge tells her that it is actually in his tummy. It makes me snicker. -Adrianne

Hi Judy Blume, I got to meet you in 1983 at a book reading on a field trip when I was 8 years old in Jacksonville, Florida.they had you sat on a stoolon this stage and you read to all of us in the audience "Freckle Juice". Well, now I'm 40 and my eight year old niece comes home from school in Arkansas today and says that she went to the library today and checked out a new book, she showed me the book " Freckle Juice" and I literally just cried " I know this book and have read it many times!!!" Thanks so much for your love in writing children's books and the ability for my niece to read them as well in her time.

Thanks for helping "raise" this little bookworm who's childhood was often lonely and always, always uncertain. Through your books, I learned about "life" & becoming a woman. Your stories took me out of my own realities(older parents who definitely didn't understand...& my daddy's battle with leukemia, dx'd when I was 9 (?).)
Thank you, Sweet Judy. I wish you could understand how reading your books and escaping in the stories, "saved" me.

Dear Judy,

I good friend bought me the book Wifey as a birthday gift all the way back in 1987. Over the years I read it so many times the pages began to fall out and it eventually fell apart. I've given the book to several friends over the years. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed it. Each time I read it something different spoke to me, as I was in a different time of my life. Thank you.

We are going to teach the rest of the class about the topic. I am writing to you to see if you may be able to answer a few of my questions regarding this topic. I would be most grateful if you were able to answer them when you get a free moment. Thank you in advance for helping me with my inquiry project! I look forward to hearing from you!

What is a Book Character and how can they affect the reader, What do you think it means to Pursue a dream, and what do you think a book needs in order to affect the reader? Thanks once again.

Dear Mrs. Blume,
We are reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing in our fourth grade class. What I liked about your book was fudge because he is funny and weird.Where did you get such good ideas for such a wonderful book?My favorite chapter was Just another Rainy Day.Why did you write about a fourth grader instead of a third grader? My favorite parts were when Peter did something so Fudge would do what he was suposed to do.What I also liked when Fudge put green stamps all over Mr. and Mrs. Yancy's suitcase. Those are my favorite parts because they are funny and cute. The chapter that was sad was Dribble. That chapter was sad because Fudge ate Dribble and Dribble didn't survive.I would like to see you write a book about Peter in six grade. You are a talented writer and I hope to read more of your books! your reader becca
